Default Build your own Smartphone! (Not Dell related, but good) - 11-04-2010, 07:45 PM

Synapse-Phones

It's priced in dollars, and you can't currently order, but it does give you are price.

The page is fairly self explanatory, it's just a list of options to customize your ideal phone.

It's the future if you ask me!

Heh.. it's almost logical, just like buying a laptop online and spec'ing it out before throwing it in the basket to pay.

Since these are more or less computers with phone capability built in it's not just about how many bundled texts/minutes you get anymore I suppose.

Looks priced in Euros to me, and out of Germany.

Hmmm yeah... sure it was in dollars last night... probably wasn't though lol, just my eyes deceiving me.

If you put in the spec for the streak (or as close as you can) it comes out as 443 Euros or 384 Pounds... that's pretty competetive!

And where can you buy a top spec android phone with a 12mp camera and a xenon flash?! nowhere!

The only downside I can see is resale value... you won't be able to sell it, or trade it in, or 'recycle' it via someone like mazuma... not for any serious money anyway, as people wont know the brand and will likely pass over it. But if you are prepared to accept that, it's a great option I think!

All the additional items are priced in € on the link at the top.

Resale value could stand up ok if the prospective buyer reads the spec rather than the makers name. Come to that if it takes off and quality is good people may really want them.

In a purely aesthetic note, if the picture on that page is accurate, it's a very nice looking phone too. Simplistic, but elegant. Beats the hell out of the Nokia N8 for example... that phone is fugly.

Nice idea, nice looking phone. Could well be the future.
Mine turns out to be $470 (£300). Not bad: not bothered about camera, full multimedia + DVB-T, 4G + wiMax (we will get it over here one day) + b/g/n wifi, max RAM & battery, 4GB storage & MSD (i've already got plenty), capacitive buttons of course.
I really do like this idea.

Notice this is a German company, so is that 470 euros? = £405!!!
They'll have to be a much better price to do any business, £45 more for my HTC DHD, & for that little bit extra you get a lot more.

They are taking pre-orders, shipping Q1 2011. 3 year warranty as standard, it's getting more & more appealing. (providing it's $)
