If it's not their fault, who's is it? They work for Dell, ultimately it is Dell that is responsible.
If they can't deliver 2.2 by the end of the year, they have failed, pure and simple.
Froyo has been out since May, and the streak since march. If we get it in december that will be 7 months between release and delivery, which is not great, but is what we were promised from the start.
If it takes longer than that it starts to become unacceptable. Dell need to deliver on this.
I love my streak, and wouldn't swap it for anything at the moment, but things change, the market moves on, and when I am due an upgrade I'm going to look at dell and think:
That's even assuming Dell come up with something to upgrade to by August next year, which I wouldn't bet on.
Dell need to sharpen up their act. Get Froyo out by the end of the year at a minimum, working, with no bugs like many had with 2.1, and show us that Dell has a future in the mobile market and that they are worth sticking with. At the moment there is a big question mark over all of that and I for one am keeping my eyes peel for alternatives elsewhere.

Nail on the head with your points Purple Zebra. Basically, as a complete package, this phone is crap. It's got amateur written all over it, but then i should have known better than to buy a phone from a budget pc/laptop company who decided to have a dabble.
There are so many bugs i got completely fed up with it, even taking the screen lock off has bugs!!!!
The integration of Android with their UI, chipset etc is woeful.
When they released the 2.1 update but forgot to update the pc suite software i actually laughed, even though it inconvenienced me loads. If this phone was a hotel it'd be Fawlty Towers.
I've already sold mine on eBay, got nearly as much as a brand new one.
Steve Jobs might be a twit, but you can't argue that the iPhone is a brilliant device, & as a package it's very good too. Having the Sheeit was like taking a step backwards.
I'm just waiting for Monday when the HTC Desire HD gets released. This will be an awesome phone from an awesome phone company, & being in partnership with Google, i'll have a bet that it gets Gingerbread before the Sheeit gets Froyo.

HTC Desire HD is a great looking phone, and a perfect example of a company that is on top of their game and continually pushing the envelope. You can buy an HTC and have confidence that what you are getting is the cutting edge of technology available, will work, and will be well supported. By August 2011 when I'm de to upgrade, I bet they will have something pretty fantastic on offer.
At present it's hard to say that about Dell.
Don't get me wrong. I love my streak. It works like a dream, I've not had many of the problems others have reported. Hardware has been faultless, and software has been quite good. I wouldn't swap it, and I don't regret investing in it. But I feel like i may be one of the lucky few.
Dell got many things right with the streak. Particularly the form factor. 5 inches of screen is brilliant, I think it's the perfect size. At the moment it is still the only device on the market with those proportions, though I hope others will imitate it in the future, as I really think it is the way forward for phones. A 5" screened HTC phone is something I would LOVE to see, and would be hard to resist.
I hope Dell stick with it too. They just need to step up their game. At the moment they can't keep up pace with other companies. Froyo by December please Dell, and a glimpse of 'Streak 2' (keeping with the 5" form factor, but bringing the spec up to date) by march would be good, to show us you are committed to this long term.
The update cycle comes around quite quickly, and if you can't give an incentive to stick with you, people WILL move on.
