Default problem downloading software - 09-16-2010, 09:39 AM

I hope someone here will have an answer for me on this. I went to marketplace on my dell streak and saw the game called PAINTBALL by crazysoft which was just the trial version, after trying it out I searched the preinstalled marketplace to find a way to purchase the game, but there was no purchase indications at all. I then went on-line to MOBIHAND, paid $9.95 for the full version of this game which I had sent via SMS as well as DESKTOP DOWNLOAD, after receiving this and tried downloading it on my device, I received "CONTENT NOT SUPPORTED ON THIS DEVICE". This has happened to me no matter who I purchase from or what any software I see that I'd like to have. It seems as tho this device is locked to my having to purchase through google's marketplace only and will reject any outside downloads. I contacted CRAZYSOFT and they ask that I go to settings>applications>unknown sources and uncheck this box if there. Well I did follow directions and there is no such setting on this device. So does anyone here happen to know if I'm locked into marketplace downloading only. How may I bypass this and purchase software from vendors other than google marketplace.

If you are using a streak from AT&T, I think that they have disabled the non-marketplace installation (other streaks from other networks or Dell allow it).

It is possible to override this, but I don't have a link to the instructions handy. I'm sure somebody will.

Yeah AT&T are a bitch for doing that.

There are a number of methods, some complicated but I *think* you can just do it with engineer controls:
  • Go to Dialler, and type this code: *#*#307#*#*
  • Screen will go black for a second or two, this will activate engineer controls, (you'll have a load of extra stuff in the menu)
  • Go to your menu and look for "EMList", open it.
  • Scroll to the bottom and click on "APP_SECURITY" and toggle the UPDATE UNKNOWN RESOURCE PROPERTY option.
  • Then exit and go to settings > Applications and you should be able to check the unknown sources box.
  • Go back to the dialler and type *#*#308#*#* to remove the engineer controls.

Job Done.

Please do not send me support requests via PM.
