Sorry, I went to get the data in a form I could edit and append it into my post, so added it above.


Edit (I'm full of them today):
The 512M flash is combo chip ('MCP') providing both flash and DRAM capacity in the same module.

Given the one we have (H8BES0UU0MCR) has these options, and the amount of RAM our device is showing, the only one that it could be is a 512/512 combo of RAM/ROM (flash), as described in the tech specs.

The missing RAM will just be used for some other purpose by the device (framebuffer or other hardware address mapping, something else).

so basically those apps such as hardware info, or droid info ... cant be trusted?

what's this total ram of 398 indicates then???

That's how much is left for 'user' applications to run in. As far as I can tell, none of those apps are able to consume more than 16MB each at a time anyway (or at least, 16MB heap + a little bit of non-heap memory).

40mb is allocated to the dalvik VM heap according to build.prop
