Lightbulb Official O2 2.1 Update Thread - 09-01-2010, 08:57 AM

** O2 has since pulled this update from their servers, but you can still download it from the mirror hosted below **
If you still want to go to 2.1, I'd recommending using the earlier leaked build which is slightly smoother than the officially released one.

Remember this update is for O2 Dell Streaks only.

We're also hosting it in the UK here:

Update Info
Just updated mine, took about 15minutes with a couple of automatic restarts, don't touch your Streak until its 100% on the home screen! (The O2 splash stays there for ages)

2.1 bug list has been started here.

Upgrade Guide
O2 have posted a guide on the Dell Streak update process. It states the update will wipe your device, so backup everything first!

O2 Confirm 2.2 in the works @CodeCruiser 2.2 is coming but not just yet

I have been checking for the update and it still says my device is up to date. I read somewhere that official O2 statement is that the update will be release on Sep 1st OR 2ND! So the wait may extend further.

So, September 01 came more than 10 hrs ago but not a sign of 2.1. This kept me up most of the night.

Who is incharge of this project; releasing 2.1, Dell or O2

Yeah, I am sure O2 would have released it at midnight rather than, at the earliest, start of trading for the day, eg 9 am. Why on Earth did you stay up all night?

I'm glad I'm not alone in my impatience! Had to laugh - over on the XDA forum someone has phoned O2 to ask when it's coming and I quote, "Just spoke to a typically clueless guy at O2 who said he couldn't find anyone who had heard of the 2.1 Android update, and suggested I contact Android (?!) if I wanted to know more!"

Funny, but also not funny at the same time, eh?

The funny thing is the update could very well be the same as the update that was leaked about a week ago.

At least this will be a hassle-free install though, instead of reflashing partitions and stuff.

Thank you, Dunhamzzz, for the mountain of information you have given users of this forum, fantastic work.

I have installed the unofficial 2.1 update and it is working wonderfully, including the ability to buy protected apps by a simple method suggested by Paul at Modaco to modify build.prop with Nexus fingerprint. I think the Dell is one of the best smartphones I have used and I used to be an Apple fan. Between us, my family has 4 iPhones, I already dumped my 3GS due to signal issues after IOS4 software upgrade. I detest the iPhone now and my family can't wait to get rid of theirs!

One question, if I may. The ONE single issue I still have with the unofficial 2.1 is the front facing camera which doesn't show up in the Camera app. Will the official update rectify this ? I hope so.

Will I have to revert to 1.6 before I can install the official 2.1 or will it install directly over the unofficial software ?

Many thanks in anticipation of your advice. Kind regards.
