Dunno why but i think this whole today-tomorrow update smells. If there is kinda official update on modaco forum saying go for we need to wait for official one? All respect but if on modaco and xda forum are beta updates then i dont know in what i should belive guys. But i think this two forums are kind need to trust and there are main dev ppl. If tomorrow nothing happen like i think i will go for latest possible 2.1 ver.

Fingers crossed it happens at some point today... Will it fix the GMail app problem with reading tree conversations does anyone know? Hate having to set them as unread just to read what was written back when...

I am looking forward to improved speed and performance, 720 recording (though I have little hope of improvement in picture quality), multitouch and gesture support(pinch to zoom), and the ability to run some more apps (such as voice action apps), etc. The two great things missing would be the numpad on keyboard and the ability to customize home screens(add remove screens).

Apparently the leaked build is a bit buggy with window animations.

Personally I hope they have put some of the 1.6 features into the 2.1 build, such as the tab thumbnails in browser, front camera support etc.

This first update will be a look in to the future of Dell Streak updates, lets hope it's not borked.

I have installed the unofficial 2.1 update and it is working wonderfully, including the ability to buy protected apps by a simple method suggested by Paul at Modaco to modify build.prop with Nexus fingerprint. I think the Dell is one of the best smartphones I have used and I used to be an Apple fan. One question, if I may. The ONE single issue I still have with the unofficial 2.1 is the front facing camera which doesn't show up in the Camera app. Will the official update rectify this ? I hope so.

Will I have to revert to 1.6 before I can install the official 2.1 or will it install directly over the unofficial software ?

It's feedback like that that motivates me to sit on the net all day!

As for updating, the leaked 2.1 update is technically older so it should overwrite just fine.
You may have to manually update though as the leaked update changes the update server, but at worst you should just be able to just navigate to the update file on your Streak and it will do the rest.

I'll be posting the QR code of the update link as soon as we get it, so be sure to have the barcode scanner installed already!
