Default Google mandates Android standard - 08-07-2010, 03:25 PM

Just found out that Google has mandated ALL Android platforms meet certain criteria, that is the delay for Huewai and Dell Streak.

Makes me wonder what criteria it doesn't meet then, if it has already been released in the UK. It would be a curious reason.

Even if they're not bound to the same restrictions (say) when releasing outside of the US, it would still be something that would make me wonder what it is they might be required to change (I mean, I could easily speculate, but I'd rather know the facts).

This is nothing new.

Google have always had a compatibility test suite which devices are required to pass before they can be preloaded with the Google apps.

You can see get the details of the 2.1 CTS from Android Compatibility | Android Open Source

Source, or it's just your opinion. Also considering that it's been out in the UK for 2 months, suggests it's not true.

The reason is most likely Dell and AT&T big shots took too long playing golf and bitching over the crappy subsidy price, then AT&T demanded it locked, and had to load their junkware on it. bleh.
