IT products distributor Asbis has gained the exclusive rights to distribute Dell's new tablet PC ‘Streak' in 11 EMEA markets, but the initial agreement does not include the Middle East.
Streak is Dell's much-anticipated five-inch Android-based tablet, which offers users portable connectivity and communications.
Asbis has not yet disclosed which 11 countries are part of the agreement, but given its strength in Eastern Europe and the CIS, it is likely to include countries from those regions.
Asbis' VP for the Middle East and Africa, Hesham Tantawi, confirmed that the exclusivity agreement announced this week does not extend to the Middle East.
He said the product had yet to be localised by Dell, but did not give any indication as to when Asbis might begin stocking it in the Middle East.
In a statement confirming the tie-up, Cyprus-listed Asbis said the Streak would be available to the channel from this month onwards and carry a retail price of EUR599 ($795).
It added Streak will introduce users to a world of thousands of Android market widgets, games and applications, and can be used as an ordinary mobile phone for voice conversations and messaging.
"It is more portable than a laptop and it is more convenient than a collection of gadgets," stated the firm.
