Returned to Carphone Warehouse, re-purchased from O2 - 06-07-2010, 07:29 PM
I just got back from returning my Dell Streak to the CPWH. Why you ask? A number of things, firstly I was informed it was unlocked, which it was not :/ secondly, I had a dead pixel on the screen - which warrants a return anyway. with every new piece of information I gave him he had to run off to the manager to confirm - in fact, all the sales reps were doing this - worst line of communication ever.
They were tricky about the return though, I stated the dead pixel and the Sales rep first reaction was "we can get that repaired for you" and my response was a prompt- "yeah right I bought it 3 days ago, I want a new one", but alas they had none in stock, I could get one delivered by the end of the week if I wanted to, but simply opted for the straight refund, knowing there was an O2 over the road
I was quite disappointed with the Sales rep I had, it was like he was trying to give me the worst solution he could, I knew for a fact there are other stores in the region which I knew had stock (I'd rang them up, this store doesn't have a phone number so I wasn't sure of their stock) - and he didn try to get a replacement from any of those stores. He even tried trump my refund by inspecting the display unit to see if "that pixel is on all of them" - As if that would even be the case! Laughable. In the end I pointed out that my 14-day statutory rights apply, and I got a refund.
To top his lack of professionalism off, he failed to notice that the microSD card and charger were not in the box, so kthnxbai for that
Anyway I headed over to O2 who were unable to sell me the product on it's own, but the handy sales rep swindled a 16GB Streak for Â£399 on a Â£10 a month (1GB data) 30-day rolling contract which I can just cancel after the first month. This still works out Â£20 cheaper than buying it out-right from the CPWH.
In conclusion, the Carphone Warehouse was ran by unprofessional reps who couldn't say a thing without running to their manager in the back room of the store every few seconds, instead of actually knowing the basic procedures. I still can't believe his first reaction to a faulty 3-day old product was "we can send it off for you, you'll get it back in 14 days".
On the other side of the high street (literally), O2 knew exactly what I wanted and went as far as needed to get it to me; showing competency and knowledge of the field, I may have even got a new MyDellMini user out of it!
Still no progress on the unlock though. Although this support form looks like it could solve that!

all streaks will be locked until dell starts to sell them. as usual, CPW staff don't usually know these things.
the o2 deal on a 30 day contract is standard and mentioned on their flyer. oddly, O" will say a payg streak on their website with no 30 day contract..... figure thatone out
