I have been trying to get the government owned SBS TV network in Australia to launch a condensed TV news service of their "World News" for mobile users.
But a few days ago I discovered on the Market an app for "Al Jazeera" English HD
And it is everything I dreamed a news service should be like, and seems to be their normal service with newsreader, all the usual videos TV news programs show, interviews etc. And a world news ticker at the bottom of the screen.
Do not for ONE MOMENT imagine "Al Jazeera" is Arab or middle eastern biased.
This is probably the best and most open news service rivaling the BBC in every way.
It starts up almost instantly and is not pre-recorded, it is live. And though at first you might get a message that a video is not for mobiles, - they are perfect for the Streak.
And if you are in the bus, and have nearby captive viewers, you can really show off how stunning your Streak's resolution can be.
Anyhow, it is free, and if you didn't like it, because you didn't like it, one press will remove it.
It is my new service, every day on the way to work.
There was an interview with some guy from "Pink Floyd", last time I had it on.
This Al Jazeera news service can also be seen on Channel 44 Sydney at 10.30 PM each night.
I should tell you that because it is live, if there is Net congestion, the screen may freeze every now & again, but mostly
it runs well.
And I suspect if you have your brightness up, this app. seems
to use up battery like they are going out of fashion. But see what you think
, and use the app. .....perhaps, sparingly.
The newsreaders are all Brits &/or American, so you would never
imagine this news come from ...Dubai (not 100% sure).
I would prefer a condensed world news, - but this one is continuing main world news.
**Just a reminder you need to use the menu button
to exit this program, otherwise it might continue running in the background, and you can imagine what that would do to your bandwidth quota and battery charge for the day.
