You're right about the ROMs part.
To download a ROM simply search for it and they'll be hosted many places across the web. Eg "Super Mario Nes ROM" will probably yield a tonne of results.
Chances are your download will be a zip folder with some files in it, essentially you're looking for a .bin file for most game types, or the Nintendo ones seem to be .gba, .gb, .gbc (game boy etc). Put this file on your microSD card (anywhere, you may want to create a folder to organise different platforms etc) and then just navigate to it in the emulator. Instructions for the PSX Emulator are a little bit more complicated to start with, you might need this tutorial.
All the emulators are free to try you just can't load saved games.

PSX = Playstation 1
PS2 = Playstation 2
PS3 = Playstation 3
PSP = Playstation Portable
Way I understand it, the original playstation was abbreviated to PSX as PS was too ambiguous, & they didn't call it PS1 as no-one knew if they were going to be making a successor back then. This is contrary to what wikipedia calls it (a 'PS').
These days emulator folk call it the PSX or the PS1; the 'X' doesn't refer to all things PS. There is no way in hell a current gen mobile device is going to play PS2 roms, sorry.
Wiki's confusion with PS/PSX is down to this ugly mutha: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSX_%28DVR%29 and notes:
PSX may refer to:

PSX4Droid is just for playing ps1 games, setup can be tricky but go through the below post for a guide
In regards to games for emulators, you can download them online easily just search snes roms, megadrive roms, nes roms etc in google.
With the exception of psx roms which are trickier to find and unfortunately not as simple to get running as snes megadrive etc, in regards to these read through the above link
Also you wont have multitouch if you are not on android 2.0 or higher which makes emulators pretty hard to play, you can either do an early update to android 2.1, wait for the official update to android operating system, or download wiimote I think its called which allows you to use a nintendo wii controller to play emulator games. Multitouch on emulators is used for the onscreen controller and if you dont have multitouch obviously can only press one button at a time.
