Default emulator games vs android games - 08-03-2010, 08:55 AM

Is it just me or do emulator games completely blow away pretty much 98 percent of all android games. For example speedforge is really poor compared to wipeout on psx, theres no golf games come close to golf games on emulators one i saw on android only offers 2 courses thats crap.
Theres no way 2d games on android come close to 2d games on the megadrive, snes or capcom system 2 emulator. And the only 2 games that I have seen that come close to 3d gaming on psx4droid are raging thunder 2 and anytime pool.

Oh and games like backbreaker football where all you do is return punts what the hell, why would you pay for a game thats not even offering a proper full game, just get american football game for psx. I could go on forever comparing these but we should be getting android games that offer a proper full developed game that you would expect on a console, the emulators can.

Android games should be way ahead of the emulated games as android games are designed to run on the system taking full advantage of it, what is going on.

Thank f**k for emulators.

I would happily pay £4 or £5+ for a really good android game, rather that then get them free and play crap games imo. I paid £4 for raging thunder 2 and dont regret it, but Ive just seen what one of the best recent games is and its throwing pieces of paper into a bin with office themes, that really is poor.

I think it's down to the development teams. All games on emulators were originally mass released on consoles, therefore have big budgets and resources, whereas there isn't really many companies dedicated to mobile games only, plus the range of devices is so diverse it'll be hard to perfect any one game.

Default android games development - 08-03-2010, 04:05 PM

I just dont think thats an excuse for some of the poor games coming out, fair enough with budget etc but given time and effort some great low budget games could be done but it seems to me most people are just putting out rubbish as fast as possible.

Also with games that have some budget and apparantely its too hard for them to develop their game to work on different devices, how come polarbit managed to do it with raging thunder 2?

To me these developers are just lazy and looking to just make a quick sale and disregard quality and optimization for compatibility, a perfect example of this is gameloft.

How hard would it be anyhow for them to provide a demo of the game so people can see if it works on their device before they buy the game, at least then its only a matter of doing updates to provide compatibility to other devices.

Im not even a games developer and can come up with solutions so why cant the game developers.

Smile Android games + - 08-04-2010, 04:02 PM

I found one android game developer well worth mentioning making the best games for android imo Polarbit, these are def some quality games. Gameloft could learn a lot from them along with all other companies. What makes them really good is they also offer lite versions for a lot of their games basically demos so you can try before you buy.

They definetly deserved to be supported by people looking for good games.

Can only speak for the 1.6 market, but droid games are pretty abysmal ATM, but then I *hate* casual games lol. That being said, iPhone games have come a long way since the app store launched so there's hope yet. As far as I know the lack of system-wide multitouch on 1.6 means devs have to program their own multi touch systems on a per-app basis, (think 'Browser' pinch to zoom vs 'Maps' zoom buttons) which renders most emulated games useless unless you carry a wii remote around with you.

Droid gamers have a review of Hyper Jump, and although not my cup of tea, at least shows some devs are trying. Much as I hate to say it we need someone like EA to step up & do droid, things like tiger woods would be amazing on the streak.

EA are at present totally useless... have you tried their mobile gaming site? ... it's blank. You can find some of their games from other non market sources if you look hard enough, but my experience is that they're not worth the effort as they don't scale properly to large screens. Pretty poor from a company like EA.

Once we get the froyo update and multi touch, I'm so going the emulator route.

Err, think you need to check your ad blocker, both EA Mobile UK | Mobile Games, iPhone Games > Home & Mobile Games, iPhone Games, Cell Phone Games | EA Mobile are up & running for me.

Personally, looking at the build fragmentation I'm not surprised EA (or any other big player) hasn't released for droid yet. [EDIT] Seems EA have a droid presence after all.

Damn you 1.6 market

Default need for speed shift demo - 08-05-2010, 01:17 PM

I found a place to download and try ea's need for speed shift for android demo, this could set a new standard if it works will try tonight.

How To: Download And Install Need For Speed Shift On Android Phone

With EA being gamelofts biggest rival would be great if they step in with more great games and mop up the mess gameloft left.

Just hope this runs better than asphalt 5.

Default Need for speed demo - 08-06-2010, 12:22 PM

Tried the need for speed demo link last night unfortunately its been removed, probably as it was the full game just locked to one track unless you had a password and would have made it too easy for ppl to distribute the full game which is fully understandable. Still looking forward to it would definetly pay for a game like that, I personally think its important to buy good games when they come along and not just try and get them free of download sites. If everyone starts trying to get the pay games for free it will kill the future for android gaming. Anyhow when you consider the games are only 4 or 8 pounds for something thats of a high standard with all different types of support for multiplayer its a big difference from paying 40 pounds for a game so people shouldnt be so tight.

Companies should start releasing more games like this especially considering how many people now have devices that use android
