memory usage plus and android mate - 08-02-2010, 04:55 PM
The first, the best for battery efficiency (for me), just make sure you don't kill any system processes; as with all of these types of apps.
The second, a nice little overview of what's happening and easy access to directories.

Quite a crude browser, but absolutely essential when in G or E data areas. - Opera mini

3gwatchdog - takes your 3g usage - love the feature that guesses how much you will have used by next bill
Advanced Ruler Pro - great for measuring stuff - can even work out the height or houses/trees!
Air Control - fun Air Traffic Controller game
Aldiko Pro - just like the free version of the epub reader, but with search thrown in. Loads of old books for free - plus can buy newer ones. Loads of free epub books online if they don't have what you need.
Aptoide - app installer - can put in various free site repositries and install direct from phone - not as good as real market, but fun and easy for bespoke software
Better Keyboard - best (non-Swype) keyboard I have found so far
Bubble - spirit level
Docs to Go
DropBox - great way of getting all your files - 2gig of free storage - syncs with your PC (or multiple PCs) just drag and drop files into the folder and it syncs them with your account. If you sign up using this URL: https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTE3Nzk0Njc5 we both get an extra 250mb - it's well worth using, can get up to 8gig for free - and more if you pay.
Speed Hud - if you've ever wanted a HUD (Heads Up Display) then get this! Pop it on your dashboard and it shows a reversed image with your speed and other bits on it - which when you look out your window you see as being the right way around. Boy racer tastic...
Weather Bug - puts a nice weather widget on homes screen
Smooth Calender - nice calendar reminders on homescreen.
Loads more, but realised i was just writing everything down!

3G Watchdog by Richard Gruet is one of those must have apps. It's fantastic and more important now that most networks are reining in their 'unlimited' data caps.

My must have applications:
As a blogger this is great, simple to use.
Useful when there is no fast signal to access docs online.
This is a phenomenal application. I have never exceeded my data allowance as I have it set to turn WiFi on when I am at home. The ability to automate phone settings based on location, time etc means that I never get woken up in the night by notifications. I use it to set silent ringing at work, change settings at night to turn off GPS and other settings to save power. It beats having to set individual functions and apps to do it. I recommend this to you all.
Excellent to do list. Plugs in and syncs with Remember The Milk and also syncs with Locale, so if you have to say, buy a computer part and you pass a computer shop, it tells you.
Google Sky Map
As an astronomer this is useful, and as I teach astronomy, when I am observing it's a great tool to show students things and allows me to quickly align my telescopes.
It's far from perfect, but at least I can buy books now.
Quite simply the best podcast client.
Love it. I love my films and DVDs so this, along with IMDB for trivia is really useful.
GPS logging, exports to docs in your Google account, creating a spreadsheet with stats, ad creates a map for you. I sue it for fitness purposes, an logging work mileage.
I travel everywhere, mostly on trains, bike and foot. This is the most vital app I have. Without it I would waste hours looking for stuff. You can include Places and Navigation in this too.
Log in, choose where you want to send videos, send them. Great time saver.
Football. The end.
I love music, my collection is in the terabytes. this helps me find more.
This application on desktop made me dump iTunes, and I was a real Mac lover. Once it arrived for Android my iPod was eBayed within the week. £9.99 a month, all the music you can eat, custom playlists, social networking, widget and uses no memory space so I can carry more films and files. When Android tablets come out I will never use a laptop again. The biggest memory space taker on my Mac as music. Spotify has ended that. Superb. It's still buggy, I have to reinstall sometimes, but to be fair it's still a beta release, something like 0.4 so I knew that when I installed it, but nothing I can't handle.
Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare and Buzz in one. No widget yet but it's still in beta, and they answer every tweet I send with ideas. Concerns about battery are unfounded I find, and data use can be set as the notification refresh rate is customisable, can be set up to 12 hours apart. Another brilliant one I recommend to all users.
I still play old Amiga games on my computer, and now I can play them on my Android stuff thanks to this emulator. Retro gaming. I miss the Amiga (I still have one, but I wish they hadn't gone bust).
