Default Mini-9 upgrade 10.6.7 - 05-14-2011, 06:05 PM

I got 10.6.3 installed from DVD using 8GB memory stick, but when I ran software update to bring it up to 10.6.7 it started crashing in preboot with message:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0x2e6881c3): "Unsupported CPU: family = 0x6, model = 0x1c, stepping = 0x2"@/SourceCache/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement-105.13/pmProcessor.c:210

I've seen suggestions to just delete the power management kext and see something around about pM=21? something like that. At this point I redid the 10.6.3 install using the very latest NetBookInstaller 0.5.8Pre and things seem to be OK, but what is my best next move? Apply the separate upgrades from Apple? up to ? or go ahead and see if software update then running NBI again fixes things?

(Sorry, that was NBI 0.8.5Pre I am now using, before was using 0.8.4 RC1)

I tried the same thing last night, because 10.6.8 hosed my machine. Fresh install of 10.6.3 from the original DVD, then 10.6.7 combo update and ran netbook installer 0.8.5pre. Says it doesn't recognize the machine but runs anyways. Reboot, no sound, run it again, now it recognizes the machine. Reboot to the same problem you're mentioning.. Like it didn't patch the kernel or whatever it does to block the Atom CPU problem.. It's a shame nobody answered your question, in the past 3 months..

Same thing happened to me when upgrading from 10.6.0 to 10.6.7. I booted up using the USB drive I made to install 10.6.0 and used the NetBookInstaller utility in the Utilities menu to reinstall NetBookInstaller onto my SSD and was then able to boot up. Lost sound and wifi though, so need to work on that.

Well, here's what worked for me...
Installed 10.6.3 from USB HD. ran NBI 0.8.4.1. All booted well, fixed sleep mode. Made sure Mini 9 running good at this point.

downloaded 10.6.7 combo from Apple.com and put it on the USB HD. Put netbookinstaller20100616212351.app on the desktop. Ran NBI...51, ran Combo Update, Ran NBI...51 BEFORE reboot. Rebooted, All good. I had to fix Sleep mode again.
