Can't install Snow Leopard on Dell Mini 9 - 10-02-2010, 06:06 PM
Ignore this post, please read my latest reply.
So I just got a Dell Mini 9 off eBay because I was told that I would be able to install OSX on it. I am following the guide over at mechdrew.com here NetbookInstaller 2: USB Mac Installation via Any Operating System | Guides | OS X | mechdrew I have 2 flash drives, one is 256mb and the other is 16gb. I have no problems setting up the 2 drives the way he describes in the beginning using diskimager on Windows 7 x64. However, when it comes to installing OSX using this method it just doesn't work the way it says it should in the guide.
First I put the small drive in the USB slot closest to the power connector and then I put the large drive in the slot right next to that. When I power on the computer I press "0" which takes me to a black screen with a gray and blue box with the following options:
I assume I am supposed to hit USB Storage here, when I do that it takes me to a gray gecko screen with 2 icons, one icon is a hard drive icon with no text under it, the other is a linux penguin icon with the word "linux" underneath. At this point in the tutorial it says I should see a Mac OSX Install DVD icon which I don't.
I have also tried the 2 "alternate" methods listed in this tutorial, all 3 methods end with the same result. If anyone could tell me where I am going wrong it would be greatly appreciated.

I tried creating the thumb drives on 3 different computers with 3 different operating systems using 3 different burning programs to create an image of my OSX install disc and I still get the same exact error every single time.
"The installer could not copy the necessary support files" during "installing macosx_title"
Surely someone knows how to remedy this, I have seen a few people mention the error in their tutorials but they don't say how to fix it, they just say as long as you don't see the error your fine.
Can someone please help? Thanks!
I took a video so you could see exactly what I mean:
