Default USB DVD drive - 08-12-2010, 05:44 AM

I would like to buy an external DVD drive for my dell mini 9 hackintosh running OS X 10.5.8 so I can watch movies while on the go. Will any DVD drive work or do I need to buy something specific for my setup? I am not concerned about watching Blu-ray disc. I am sorry if this question has already been asked, but I could not find it when searching. Thank you!

I have a slim LG DVD burner. Slim means it's essentially a laptop drive, and can be powered off USB. I've never had a problem with it on any machine (but I don't use OSX). A non-slim drive would work, too, but it'd be bigger than the Mini and require its own AC adapter.

As for OSX, I expect any normal slim DVD drive will work (but not the MacBook Air drive). But I think the included OSX DVD player stupidly doesn't work with external drives unless you hack it, other software doesn't have that limitation.
