Default OSX 10.5.8 w/ NBI 0.8.3 final & no sound - 08-03-2010, 02:27 AM

I've tried reinstalling the extensions in both safe mode and normal, and still no luck.

Anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

I just finished getting it back to booting (had hibernate is xxx seconds old error and nothing worked so I had to reformat and go through that mess) converted it to NBI instead of going with the EFI, and now I have no audio.

-Dell e1705 - New $1055: ATi X1400 OC/ed 175% faster, XPS 1710 Heatsinks, XPS 1710 Body
e1705 is old, it needs not to be upgraded, but rather be replaced.

OK, I think this version had a flaw, it's been a while since I used it. i think you need to boot off your install USB key as if you were going to do a fresh install and then run NBI from the there and restart.

Don't forget to enable USB Legacy so you can boot from your key.

ugh.. I just need to give up and make usb keys lol

I've been doing this with an Xbox 360 HD DVD player and I tell you what.. it sucks sometimes lol

i'll give that a try

edit - well... I tried it, no luck with that
I was about to try to run the EFI extras to see if that would work, but i'm afraid it might brick the computer and I would have to start all over again.. :/

yep, tried also booting off the EFI boot disk and it would get stuck at the blue screen ugh!

Okay well I just had EFi 1.2a5 install the extras and the speakers are now working.

thanks for the suggestion though underwhelmed!

just was kinda hoping NBI would have everything fixed, guess not Oh well, it's been good enough so far!

It's just annoying, my 9 usually bricks itself every 6 months or so and I have to reinstall from scratch and lose everything :/
Not sure if I am the only person with that problem or not..

and now I lost two finger scrolling.. ugh! lol this is ridiculous!

Okay well this is interesting.

What has happened:

Reformat and reinstall of OSX 10.5.4 (using EFI boot, not NBI [couldn't get it to work])
Update to 10.5.8
Ran NBI, eventually noticed there is no sound
Ran Dell EFI 1.2a5 to only install "extras"
sound came back, lost two finger scroll (I knew that would happen though)
rebooted, ran NBI installing only extras
rebooted

now.. everything is working perfectly. Have scrolling, have audio, so far everything is working!
Haven't checked external display yet, but I never do use an external monitor so..

I tried to transition from the old DellEFi to NBI/NBM on my first install and had issues. I had a 10.5.6 disc, so I made the NBM install key and it was all good.

I don't think NBM/NBI works below 10.5.6, and that is supposed to be phased out with the new release.

I have my minis running SL now and am very happy with them. It might be time to think about/get ready for a fresh install with SL. Just my .02.

I have been so out of the loop, I haven't been to these forums in well over a year so I haven't been paying attention, I just had to reformat and do it all over again because of some new error i've never come across, I noticed EFI was gone, NBI was what I had come across, I am unfamiliar with SL

My turn to be away, but maybe you'll see this........turn off your USB legacy support in the Bios for proper sleep.

Check my signature, have a similar install to you that has been going strong for over a year!
