Problems getting NBI working - 07-17-2010, 03:59 PM
I'm trying to install 10.6.0 on my Mini9 using the netbookbootmaker method, but it isn't working. I've followed the guide here: NetbookInstaller 1: USB Installation via Mac | Guides | OS X | mechdrew
I format my USB drive as HFS with the MBR option enabled, and then I restore my OS X 10.6.0 retail DVD to this USB drive (I want to copy the contents of the DVD image, not a block-level copy, right?) Then I run netbookbootmaker on that drive.
When I try to boot my Mini 9 from that USB drive, it gives the message, "Error parsing plist file" but it doesn't name the plist file it's having trouble with. It displays the text-based progress indicator for a few seconds (you know, the /-\| characters that it displays in sequence) and then seems to stall. Then, the Chameleon boot selector loads. It has a graphical display that shows my USB drive and the hard drive as possible boot disks. When I choose the USB drive, it again gives an "Error parsing plist file" message and then flashes another error message for a fraction of a second so I can't read it. Then it returns to the boot select screen.
I've tried editing the com.apple.boot.plist file in the Extras directory on my install USB disk, but it just seems to ignore the changes to this plist file.
Could someone give me a little guidance here? I've tried 2 different USB drives, I've tried MBR and GUID partition schemes on them, and I've tried NBI 0.8.3 and 0.8.4RC1 with no success.
