Default TrackPad Woes - 07-08-2010, 02:18 PM

I am new here and I have searched for this one peice of info and still can not tell if I am spinning my wheels?

I have a Mini 9 with 10.5.7 running and all seems well except that the TrackPad will not be reliably "Tapped"?

It works fine moving the cursor around but tapping is more miss than hit.
It seems there is a tiny section of the pad that responds if ever?
Also gestures are not reliable at all.

My question here is ,does anyone have good trackpad function with any version of OS install or should I just accept this as a limitation of the process?

Please tell me what you have learned.

Thanks
Ed

I have a 10v running 10.6.4 and now I love the trackpad, but for a long time I had freeze issues and I found dell had not installed the ribbon clip to the motherboard very well. I fixed that and since it's been great. Hope this helps.

The track pad on all my minis work fine. I do remember having issues with it initially when using 10.5.6, but there was a work around way back then in the DellEFI days.

Are you using NBI?

My dell mini 9 is running 10.5.7 and was installed before netbookinstaller existed - ie using dellEFI.

My trackpad runs fine using the v18 kext from Meklort here:
Touchpad drivers

With respect to gestures - I do not think you should expect too much. The Synaptics pad is not a multitouch pad and the two figure scroll and two finger tap is the most you can expect purely due to Meklorts wizardry.

I am not sure what version of the trackpad driver is in the current netbookinstaller release. Others may assist here.

Thanks for the replies so far, truly appreciated.

I do not know how to tell exactly which hack I am running?
I bought this machine already baked and am considering doing it over if it will enable better trackpad function.

I tried the touchpad drivers and they seemed to disable the trackpad on mine entirely?

Thanks
Ed

Installing the track pad drivers should have given you a new preference pane in system preferences labeled track pad. You should be able to reset your track pad functionality in there.

If I remember correctly, each time I ran a new version, it would reset and have to be adjusted.
