I noticed that with my most recent upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.2 that I can now enable 'Internet Tethering' under the network settings.

Excited at escaping my $64/month marriage to Verizon, I plugged the phone into my Dell Mini USB port and the Mini detected the iPhone at least to the extent of adding a new iPhone item to Network Preferences. However, tethering does not appear to be working on the Mini side. I get an error message "Either the cable for iPhone USB is not plugged in or the device is not responding."

The typical workaround might be to use Bluetooth tethering instead, but since my Mini doesn't have Bluetooth, that isn't much of an option for me.

Has anyone else gotten further with tethering the Mini to the phone?

Heres the thing about tethering with an iphone . . if you have AT&T you cant get it unless you have a jailbroken iphone. i beleive tmobile does allow a tethering plan . . . .but you said your working with verizon so you must have an unlocked phone because verizon dosent carry the iphone. so if your phone is jsut unlocked you wont get thethering capability . . . . if its unlocked and jailbroken you will be able to theter . . i am on firmware 3.1.3 wiht a jailbroken iphone and can tthter perfectly fine via bluetooth and usb and as well as turning my phone into a mobile hotspot.

start pdanet connected to the recently created networ(Via WIFI ))))))))!!!!!!!


then watch as your bytes start increasing, Its awesome.

one of the main reasons for a jailbreak.

Use backgrounder to keep the connection running in background(multitasking)

it does eat power so be prepared!

you could also use MyWi, which turns your iphone into a WiFi access point. I think it's 10bux from the Cydia store (must be jailbroken)

Also, youc an often find the Bluetooth cards for Mini's on ebay cheap.

I regularly tether my iphone to my Mini10v via bluetooth, works very well.
