Default Software Update wrecked the install - 05-10-2010, 03:17 AM

I had 10.6.2 running smoothly, and then foolishly let the software update run tonight. After the restart I get the multilingual message that I need to reboot.

Do I need to do a re-install from scratch, or is there a patch I can use to fix whatever problem this is?

Apologies if this is something that has been repeatedly dealt with on the board; thanks in advance for any advice.

There are two ways I can think of off my head.
One, look a these links:
How to recover from failed 10.6.3 update
Updated to 10.6.3 and now it won't boot

Two, use some sort of bootable OS (linux or the OS X installer), and rename the mach_kernel file on the root of your ssd to 'mach_kernel_bak', then copy this file to the root and name it 'mach_kernel':

Hope that helps, and remember, install the latest NBI before you update, ~James

I just realized that both of those threads will take you to the same page; no matter, It should help anyway,
