Default My dell mini 9 running Leopard is too slow - 04-20-2010, 03:18 PM

It has become almost impossible to browse the web on my dell mini 9 running 10.5.8.

I have also messed around with the install (and might have upgraded the bootloader wrongly in the past).

So what I want to do now is do a clean install. I have 2Gb and a 32Gb runcore SSD installed in it. What is the best guide to follow, and what is the best OS to put in there? 10.5 or 10.6?

I would install 10.6 personally and I guess that Mechdrews guide is the guide of choice, I dont run OSX, but from what I have read thats it

I've found that OSX (10.5 & 10.6) is MUCH faster than XP or Win 7 on the Mini 9 using what ever SSD you have. Ubuntu is also faster than MS products, but still somewhat slower than OSX.

Try backing up using Time Machine, reinstalling from scratch using latest Net Book Installer, and then use the Migration Assistant app (in Utilities folder of OSX) to reinstall your settings & programs.

MINI 9: Jade Green, RunCore 64GB SSD, Hyper-X 2GB RAM, Dell 5530 WWAN Card, Dell 1505 WiFi Card, Bluetooth 2.1, 1.3MP Webcam, Leopard 10.5.8 NBI 8.0.3 Final, BIOS A05

If the internet is only thing being slow, I suggest cleaning the cache on the browser. Also see if your wireless card is overheating, and I would also check the cpu speed (throttle step-speed). good luck

Mac OS X 10.5.7, Bios A05, DellEFI 1.2a5, 2 GB Memory, 32 GB Runcore, Integrated 1.3 Megapixel video + Bluetooth (fixed on/off), , GMA booster, VoodooPower (proper steps), TouchPad Kext 18. GeekBench 920
