Default 10.6.3 vs Atom Support? - 03-30-2010, 10:05 AM

Hi - Does anyone know if 10.6.3 has fixed the Atom support issue? I have a Dell Mini 9 running 10.6.1 and would like to know if I can update to 10.6.3. Or do I need the kernel hack? Also, is NBI 0.8.4 RC1 safe to install on it (or do I need to install it)?
thanks!

Go ahead and install 0.8.4RC1. There are quite a few of us running well with it so far.

Update to the new NBI first and then go ahead and update to 10.6.3, smoothest upgrade yet. If all goes well, you don't even need to run NBI ever again!

To be clear, Apple won't very likely add Atom support back in, as least the didn't yet. But NBI patches around that issue for you. Get a new NBI and you good at least up the 10.6.3.

NO. You want NBI .8.4RC1 -- download and install on your Mini

I then rebooted and ran Software Update and upgraded to 10.6.3 from there... no issues.

Yep, 10.6.3 gives no issues... only if updated via software update and with 0.8.4rc1...

Before that I did a stupid thing and updated via combo update and crashed the system... than I've actually red the freaking manual, and now everything is smooth...

So is there a fix if we updated to 10.6.3 before installing .8.4RC1? I didn't pay attention to an iTunes update, now its all futzed up.

The best way to fix it is to use your USB drive that you installed with, copy NBI 0.8.4 RC1 to the drive and run NetbookInstallerCLI (located at /NBI.app/Contents/MacOS/NetbookInstallerCLI) from the terminal.

I used my usb with 10.6(Retail) + NBI 0.8.3...
After install I downloaded 0.8.4RC1 to desktop and installed it on top of 0.8.3 and ran it...
After that I was able to run Software Update to 10.6.3 (with iTunes) and nothing got corrupted.
