Default 10.6.1 and NBI 0.8.3. RC3 - how to update - 02-17-2010, 11:32 PM

Hello,

Its been a while since I've updated my dell mini9 - now that I finally got a 16GB sdhc card, I wanted to make sure I didn't mess it up by updating it incorrectly.

Currently:
-10.6.1
-NBI 0.8.3. RC3
-8 GB SSD (so it won't let me install 10.6.2 via software update)

Existing Issues:
-BIOS change not sticking - plan to follow related thread
-speakers work, but microphone/headphone socket not working

1. Do I install and run the final 0.8.3 NBI, and then update to 10.6.2 via system update, and then run NBI again? any other steps like removing old NBI version?
2. Has the latest NBI solved the existing issues that I have, or should I try fix them before/ or after installing the latest NBI and 10.6.2?

I have run the new NBI -

My applications only take up 449MB - and I've run monolingual and removed the large speech files etc.. but i only have 1.15 GB of space left out of my 8gb.. Anyone have an idea why? hibernatemode is already set to 0, and when I run sudo rm /var/vm/sleepimage it says no such file exists.

It sounds about right re: the numbers you have. My Mini9 on 10.6.2 (monolingual-ed and manually pruned) with sundry 3rd party applications is eating up 6.54GB. Seeing you really don't get a full 8GB of disk space due to formatting, the 1.5GB free seems reasonable.

So, maybe get xslimmer and run it?

Some of these things I do to keep the disk usage down:
Computer refuses to turn on... Operating system full?

BIOS A05 | USB Legacy: ON | USB Wake: OFF | Bluetooth: OFF | NBI .8.4 RC1.1 (20100616212351)
Sleep: Working | Speakers: Working | Headphone Jack: Working

Another clean up you might want to do is get something like Yasu.app that helps you kick off the maintenance scripts inherent to OSX. Trimming logs and caches can help.

Oh, ok- its actually 1.25gb right now - guess I will make do.

Only problems left are internal mic doesn't work, and I don't know how to update to 10.6.2 Since software update doesn't allow, should I download the combo update or will it give me the same message that I need 3.5gb + to install the update?

To the OP, I was in the same situation as you, followed the instructions you are asking about (which is what is recommended, new NBI, combo update, new NBI again, then restart)...and my mini9 was rendered unbootable. I have tries twice to no avail, in fact I started a thread about it but no one had any idea what to do. So I'm still stuck at 10.6.1. Did u get it to work?

Nope - still don't know how to install 10.6.2 update, since it won't let me continue due to lack of HD space....
