Default mini9 running perfect w/ 10.5.7, a04.. questions about upgrading? - 02-12-2010, 08:24 PM

edit: just searched instead. i guess if it ain't broke don't fix it.

edit#2: i'd like to update the BIOS to A05 (hoping this will help with battery life) and migrate from DellEFI 1.1 to NetbookInstaller... I figure worst case I re-do everything... can anyone describe the steps that I should take... as in what do i do first? do I update bios? then run netbookinstaller? what about the dellefi that's already installed? any help would be great! thanks

First of all, if you are planning on keeping 10.5.7, I would NOT upgrade to Netbook Installer. For 10.5.7, it is NOT better than DellEFI -- not everything may work with the latest Netbook Installer.. an older version of Netbook Installer may actually work better. With 10.5.7, everything should work with DellEFI so there is no reason to go to Netbook Installer if you already have everything working.

You can upgrade the BIOS to A05 (or A06 now) if you wish at anytime whether or not you do Netbook Installer first. The order will not matter. A05 can be done using a bootable flash drive Dell I910 Mini/Vostro A90 USB Key Drive flashBIOS Utility.

If you still want to use Netbook Installer from DellEFI, check out Transitioning From DellEFI to NetbookInstaller.

If you are going to another OS X version, Netbook Installer can be better. If you are going to the latest 10.6.2, you can get better sound/mic support if you look around this forum for the "without voodoo hda" post -- which takes a little bit of effort.

Decided to go with SL after all. Did a clean install and everything is great. On 10.6.2 with everything working as far as I can tell

i am ordering a new SSD for my mini V90 so i am interested in going with Snow instead and i am wondering if i should just clone my working 10.5.8 then upgrade or go with a fresh install. if you suggest a fresh install please let me know what link for the easy, best setup for doing it from scratch.

i think most people here would tell you to do a clean install... things just seem to work better that way... there should be guides somewhere on this forum that walk you through the process but it's pretty straight forward using NBI/NBM...

Yep go with a clean install - running up to 10.6.3 with 0 issues. On my 64gig mini with all print drivers Ilife & office for mac 2008 I still have over 40 gig free, with the 32gig SD card I'm not running out of space - any unneeded large files I just swap over to my external drive so I can always get access to them when needed.

I know this isn't directly related to this post but I could use some help

My hacbook has been running great ever since I installed it with Leopard over a year ago. Alas I'm now faced with having to update my OSX to 10.5.8 in order to be able to sync my new iPhone 4 to iTunes 9.2.

Can anyone please tell me or direct me to the simplest way to update from 10.5.6 to 10.5.8? on my Mini 9? Can you also tell me if there is a way to do it without needing the Leopard install disc again? I'm really quite the n00b with this, so please dumb it down as much as you can.

Any help sent my way would be GREATLY appreciated.
