Default No sleep- about to give up - 01-31-2010, 11:09 PM

I have loaded OS X on my Mini 9 and love it, but if I can't get sleep working, I'm throwing in the towel. I have searched around the web (and spent considerable time reading posts here on MyDellMini) and tried many things.

I updated my BIOS to a05;
I have checked (and double and triple checked) the USB options in the BIOS (and tried permutations of them);
I have loaded (and reloaded) multiple options from DELLEFI;
I loaded some custom KEXT that was supposed to improve sleep.

I'm beginning to think it will never work right. I can't find anything conclusive, but I worry that the SuperTalent (FEM32GFDL) drive I have in it is the limiting factor.

Does anybody have the answer? Is there anything else I should try? If not, I'm off OS X for good.

Thanks!

You may have to be a bit more specific on your install details and what's actually wrong with sleep (does it not sleep at all? does something not work after resuming from sleep? does it not resume from sleep?) for people to help.

One thing, you mentioned a sleep kext and dellefi. The dellefi method is outdated and -someone correct me if I'm wrong- the latest released Netbook Installer version shouldn't have too many issues with sleep as long as you've disabled legacy usb in bios without any extra kexts. If you mean NBI, below post by underwhelmed mentions "The hibernation option in the NBI does not work at this time, so I would re run and disable it. Also, if you installed the old mirror friendly kexts, remove those while you are there."

Also, your SSD should not have anything to do with sleep. I use a 32GB SuperTalent SSD myself.

Excellent, thanks! I have been unable to figure out what the best, most current method is, and I found a number of SSD related posts.
I installed with a slip-streamed installer (I think originally intended for the MSI Wind?) which worked great for a friend. I have an original OS X disc, so if another method is better, I'm happy to try.
The current situation is that the machine will never wake up. I close the lid or sleep from the menu, and the computer will never wake up.

Do you have a pointer to a good how to for the netbook installer?

Thanks, SmurfLappy, for the quick response.

First of all... interesting install method lol, I've only ever slipstreamed windows installs but I guess that would do too for this.

This is the version/overview install you will want to use for the latest installer by Meklort.

NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 Final (Official Release)

More detailed instructions can be found at Mechdrews site: Guides | OS X | mechdrew or the guides section on MyDellMini. You should be able to do your usb drive prep with your DM9 first.

Notes: some mic/audio out (headphone jack) is not immediately supported by the current NBI. You can check out Dell Mini 9 Audio with Microphone without VoodooHDA (Snow 10.6.2) here for that if you want it and feel like tinkering some more after the install.

Edit: If you don't want to reinstall and want to try fixing your current install, maybe someone else can help, but I'm not too familiar with your install method or dellefi. I do know the last release of dellefi (dellefi 1.2a5) supported sleep up to 10.5.7 (unsure of other versions).

Have you tried pressing the power button? My A90 doesn't wake up from raising the lid or pressing a key, but works fine if I press the power button.

Tip 2: Make sure that legacy support is disabled if you have any USB peripheral attached.

Also, I should have mentioned that you also have the choice of first *attempting* Transitioning From DellEFI to NetbookInstaller

Though personally I would prefer a clean install as you are probably not sure what is actually used in your case.

SmurfLappy,
I ran a clean install using NBI and my mini is running flawlessly.
Thanks for the pointers!
