1. hook up good speakers to output music from iTunes.
2. This is the one I am not sure on how to do -> hook up a powered microphone to the mic input and output the live audio directly to the external speakers live.
can this be done in OSX? on the Dell Mini?
Thanks. |
As far as I know, you'll need a usb audio interface. Something like this:

I use one of these with my Dell Mini 9 running OS X 10.5.7, and it works very well. To get the mic to work, start Audio Midi Setup, make sure the usb audio interface (which shows up as "C-Media USB Audio Device") is selected for Default input, Default output, and System output. In the Properties popup menu, select "C-Media USB Audio Device".
In the lower left, give the input some volume, and check the "Thru" checkbox. The mic should now be sending to the speakers.
