Default Partition Failed when installing Snow Leporad to my Mini 9. Please Help!! - 01-12-2010, 09:53 PM

I just followed NetbookInstaller 1: USB Installation via Mac | Guides | OS X | mechdrew to install Snow Leporard to my Dell Mini 9.

Everything worked great till I got to this step.

Quote:
  1. Go to the Partition tab. Configure:
    • Volume Scheme: 1 Partition
    • Name: <Any name without a space in it.>
    • Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    • Options...: GUID Partition Table, press OK.
  2. Press Apply, then Partition. When it is finished, close Disk Utility.
The error I am getting is after I press apply is

Quote:
Partition Failed
Partiton Failed With Error

POSIX reports: The operation couldn't be completed.
Cannot allocate memory
Has anyone else had this error? Any idea what I need to do?

I was so excited thinking everything was working great up until this point.

thanks

The DellMiniHD volume is greyed out and not mounted.

Thanks, but that doesn't work for me either. Same error. Completely stalled.

Mini 9, Snow Leopard retail disk restored to USB, Boots from USB

If it makes any difference, I'm reinstalling OSX a second time here. The first installation went bad after a couple months with a "hibernate image is too old..." I think that was with RC2 though.

I am getting the same error and erase disk does not work for me either. This is also a second round install. Any advice?

It's not directly related to the MacOS installer. After I had this problem I switched back and did a test install of both XP and linux from the Dell install disks. Both failed.

Somethings happened to your disk that means it can't be partitoned. Could be a security/bios setting, a low low level SSD thing, or it's just broken. It may have been caused by the previous install.

I contected Dell about the "XP" install problem, but all they would say under the warranty was that it was a "software problem" and I needed to contact their pay-per-call support. They could be right, and there's a nice trick to reset the SSD at the lowest level, or it could just be a support idiot getting it wrong.

In the end I was upgrading the SSD anyway, so didn't investigate further.

Hi,

I am seeing exactly the same behaviour - is there any chance of reviving the SSD?

Bye
