Unhappy How do you reduce Snow Leopard Size on 8GB STEC Vostro A90? - 01-02-2010, 03:14 AM

After a week i managed to installed Snow Leopard (Retail 10.6) by installing it on a 40gb external harddrive, running monolingual and deleting and disabling hibernation it finally fit on my 8gb STEC SSD. Is there any way to free up alot of space. I am running 10.6 and originally had 1.6/ 8gb free but after installing mac office i only have 468 mb of free space. HELP

EDIT: I ran the program (WhatSize) and it is saying 3.55 GB on disk but the ssd is saying i have use 6.37 gb and have 468 MB avaliable

you can free up a few hundred megs by removing the screen savers, wallpapers, text to speech voices, and any apps you feel you wont be using. Then you can add an SD card and install apps to that.

You can also use Xslimmer and it will reduce the size of most apps installed.

seems like there is still the sleep image file on your hd (in case you customized you install to not install any additional languages / printers / x11 and that stuff).

my 10.6.2 install with a few small programs (quicksilver, transmission, etc..) has 4.08 gb -> 2.7 gb free.

Disk Inventory X is a great tool for tracking down where your disk space is going.

The Alex voice, and printers are the big once to knock out. SleepImage seems to keep coming back under the latest NBI, so keep checking for it.
