boot with live CD, to repare broken OSX install - 12-28-2009, 04:24 AM
ive got a question, and i hope it hasnt been asked recently, but..
ive tried to install the new sound solution for 10.6.2 and mini9 from
Dell Mini 9 Audio with Microphone without VoodooHDA (Snow 10.6.2)
however when trying to run the updateExtra app, it didnt do anything, just the spinning beachball of death.. so i decided to reboot, to see if that would help (ive noticed that it sometimes needs that..)
however, apparently it was doing SOMETHING.. cuz now i cant boot into OSX anymore.. it crashes with a bunch of text, fairly quick after the dell logo..
my question is, is there any way i can get into some sort of environment where i can fix any damage it sustained. could i build a live CD..
i havent got a backup of the disc (i know, dumb) and i had it all nicely installed (with some registered programs that i'd rather not reregister)
i dont know exactly where it all went wrong.. maybe i did something wrong with NBI.. as i needed to run NBI to let it show my extra folder. but i unchecked everything else (does it revert when i do that?)
or maybe the update extra thing was wrong..
ill post a picture of the screen when i get a clear picture of it.
any help would be appreciated.

You can boot back in one of three ways:
1) NetbookCD, just boot the CD and then select your SSD. Repair with NetbookInstaller.
2) If you used a flash drive to install originally, you can boot into the Mac OS X Installer and run NetbookInstaller from the Utilities menu. Do that and restart.
3) If the first two are not feasible but you have a spare flash drive (64 MB or larger) you can create an bootable drive with proper extensions by following the first few step in this guide. Repair with NetbookInstaller when you get back in.
I'm sure you'll have more questions, so don't be afraid to ask.
