hmmm... well, I've tried it with 4 different monitors, a SmartBoard & a Panasonic (?) projector. All have worked with mirroring. I've only tried spanning on two of the monitors. Only tried PowerPoint on the SmartBoard (mirrored).

FWIW, my Dell Mini9, which I had 10.5.7 + DellEFI (the last one they released) on. It worked flawlessly w/ all the monitors I tried it on, but I was _always_ using it w/ mirroring.

I can do mirroring provide I use NBI to install the mirroring extensions.
Without these extensions one gets the vertical scramble.

Problems with external displays or projectors in OS X? Try MirrorDisplays2!
