Default Any advantages to Snow Leopard? - 11-24-2009, 07:23 AM

Hi;

I'm currently running 10.5.8 on my Vostro a90. All is good (sleep, audio, etc). Are there any advantages to running Snow Leopard instead? Does it have better battery management? Just curious if I'm missing out on any performance enhancements. My current configuration:
a90 - 2GB RAM - 16GB SSD

Thanks;
J.

arstechnica has a really good evaluation, and i think you'll find that most of the upgrades for sl are under the hood improvements for 64 bit operation. i plan on staying with 10.5.8 on my 10v for a very long time.

I gained about 1.5gb of space after going to SL. And I have everything working also, Sleep, Sound, Restart all work fine.

I like SL for the built in MS Exchange support and I just like having the latest and greatest

Sounds like good advice. The old mantra of "if it ain't broken.." totally applies. Zarkon, I did use the NBI method to do the installation. 95% an easy process. The 5% was dealing with all the hiccups, that were nicely documented. Sleep took me a while to figure out, but that was resolved as well.

Yup, SL taught me about being a early adopter on my DM-9. I was VERY unhappy with the performance comparatively when I upgraded from 10.5.8. Subsequently, I downgraded back to 10.5.8 and all is well. Kludgey sound has been the big downer for me. I'm glad to be back to 10.5; I have a 64BG SSD, so space is not a big issue. If I were running an 8 or 16GB it might be worth the effort as you do get lots of SSD space back by going SL.
