Default Windows media attachments crash Mail, Quick Look and Preview - 11-23-2009, 05:39 PM

Anyone else having this problem - mail with .wmv attachments cannot be opened - mail crashes? Tried not previewing mail and saving attachment - this works but if Preview is set to open when attachment title is selected, crashes to blank desktop; same if QuickLook is used. Can get round it by opening attachment once saved to disk (right click, select open with Windows Media Player) but a) I don't know why it happens and b) it's really annoying! Cannot read any mail that has .wmv file attached. Tried installing Flip4Mac, tried RealPlayer, something I've missed?

Whoa, I'm confused. There's a Windows Media Player for Mac? I thought that went away years ago. Maybe that's your problem.

"There's a Windows Media Player for Mac?"
OK, it's version 9 & nothing else opens .wmv on my mini, not QT10, not QT7, not Flip4mac, nothing - crashed every time - I only installed Windows Media Player in desperation because nothing else works so, no, that's not my problem...
And, no, it didn't happen under 10.5.8

*********************************
Aha! I'm just impatient, me. Expect everything to work straight away. Uninstalled all AV apps and helpers except QT10 and 7 and got Flip4Mac 2.3.0.14 (latest) - reinstalled and now it works. Just had to wait for Telestream catch-up. Thanks for the nudge, mechdrew.

Observation: Running Monolingual after installation makes Flip4Mac stop working and the crash situation returns... now that's the problem.

Close thread?
