To make it more elegant (correct input and output device names in sound prefs and ambient noise reduction option for mic) I found a legacy kext that injects to vanilla AppleHDA (futureproof?) either via HDAEnabler or DSDT patch.

This method involves the following:

Restore original AppleHDA.kext to /System/Library/Extensions (won't show correct device names if put elsewhere). If you deleted it, you can extract it from 10.6.2 update with Pacifist

Copy patched IOAudioFamily.kext to /System/Library/Extensions

Copy Alc268.kext to /Extra/Mini9Ext/

Copy DSDT.aml to /Extra/

No need to manually change ownership and/or permission on kexts.

Since UpdateExtra (and NetbookInstaller 0.8.3 RC4) has AppleHDA blacklisted, it removes the kext from its original location so we have to remove its reference:

Go to /Extra, right click on UpdateExtra, Show Package Contents, navigate to Contents -> Resources -> SupportFiles.

Open machine.plist with a Plist editor or Textedit navigate to Dell Mini 9 -> Kext Blacklist and remove entry 0 AppleHDA.kext.

Save and exit, run UpdateExtra, repair permissions and reboot
The two K-text is what didn't work for me. Here's what I did for sanity sakes.

Preface: Runing NBI 0.8.3 with 10.6.2. Dell mini 9 STEC 32 GB 2 gig ram

- Extracted the AppleHDA.kext from the 10.6.2 update
- Copied it to /System/Library/Extension
- Copied over the IOAudioFamily.kext in same directory
- Copied over the ALC268.kext to the /Extra/Mini9Ext
- Coppied the new dsdt.aml to /extra
- Open package UpdateExtra and replaced the mini 9 value for black list to be <array/>
- Ran updateExtra
- Updated permission
- Made sure my AppleHda.kext was there
- Rebooted

When it rebooted got only the controls and no sound.

Let me know if I missed anything.

Try to install AppleHDA and IOAudioFamily using kext helper, repair permissions, run UpdateExtra and reboot

Default the kext worked for me - 12-06-2009, 08:41 AM

I installed the kext into my /Extra/Mini9Ext folder and ran the UpdateExtra app, rebooted and it worked perfectly. I closed the lid for it to sleep, it went. I opened my lid to wake it, it woke. I tested the sound and it played. I tested the mic and it was receiving sound. Great job to everyone who participated in making this work.

I copied the AppleHDA and IOAudioFamily using KextHelper; copied your dsdt into Extra and your ALC268 into Mini9Ext.
I then ran Disk Utility and repaired permissions.
Finally I ran your UpdateExtra and rebooted.
I didn't re-run your NBI - I know RC4 has problems rebuild the dsdt, so perhaps this is related?

Anyway success Working speakers without hiss and the mic worked in Skype handsfree.
Thanks!

Just Tried it again with Kext helper and no Luck. Only things I can add are this.

1.) When I extracted the AppleHDA.kext from the 10.6.2 update I did get a bunch of Validation errors. Can some please link this for me?

2.) I could not find your updated updateextra package. Can you please link it if possible?

Thanks for the help!

Had the same problem. Everything seems like it went well. Audio control and Sound shows up in preference, but No sound at all

I used the provided AppleHDA.kext and the Updateextra you provided. I copied the dsdt.aml and the ioaudiofamily.kext from the other post you had.

Let me know if anyone had this problem. Thanks!

Bah! Didn't work for me at all...
****************************
Right-o, inserted original HDA kext from 10.6.2 mac installation in S/L/E. Did all the stuff suggested including amending blacklist BUT didn't amend whitelist in NBI - hmmm - anyway all failed - had to reinstate from clone (fortunately done today before trying audio fix). Haven't a clue where I went wrong.
