Hi Maddog. Been trying to not give up on this thing, so I hope you don't mind me asking you silly, obvious questions.

First, how do you go about changing the ownership and group on that AppleHDA file? Using Command-i only has he option to view/change Name and Privilege.

Do I need to use SleepWatcher, or is that optional?
Can I use my own dsdt file, or do i have to replace it with the one you provided?

Appreciate the info and help.

First, I've changed ownership of the AppleHDA.kext file. They are owned by root and the group is wheel.
I've installed the extension in the /Extra/A90Ext/ folder (I have a Vostro) and in the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. I do not think I did it simultaneously. I think I installed first in the /Extra/ and then on the /System/ (after a restart). But I am not sure.
I did get rid of the Azelia extensions (there are 2).
Also, I am using SleepWatcher, however, I did the following, on the rc.sleep file I have the command to unload AppleHDA.kext from the /Extra/ folder and on the rc.wakeup file I have it set so that it uploads the extension in the /System/ folder.
It has been working well, with good sound since then.

I am putting here the extension with the correct ownership and the dsdt file I've got from tommyp.
You can check the ownership by using cmd-i in the finder or using ls -l, for instance, in terminal.
If anyone has any request to automate something let me know.
Id suggest you keep a copy of this version because if you run NBI it deletes this extension.

That sounds way too easy. You mean to say you have audio COMPLETELY working (speaker, headphones, mic)? And what do you mean by reg mode exactly?

the rc4 version.

Ive gone from pulling my hair out trying to install osx

to running 10.6.2 and doing a time machine backup as i type.

Mannikin, no problem. I'll help as much as I can.
Firstly, you change ownership and group with terminal. However, you can download the AppleHDA.kext extension from my previous post. It has the right permission and ownership.

As for the dsdt file, I don't know. I used the one that was posted in this discussion and it has been working fine.

SleepWatcher might be optional, but you will have to use terminal to load the extension after your computer goes to sleep. So, I'd suggest you do what I did and use SleepWatcher as I posted.

I can't comment on greenrolaids method. However I can say that the sound on my Vostro is fine, I have sound in and out via Vostro and via the jacks. No clicks or any problem whatsoever.

So, I am happy...

Thanks for the reply. This worked perfectly!!! The combination of the AppleHDA & the IOAudioFamily is working great for me now. Sound out of the speaker and headphones and no problems with sound after sleep. Took me a while to figure out I needed to run UpdateExtra instead of Kext Helper! I think we have a winner. Thanks again Maddog and tommyv.

Works like a charm!
Audio is near perfect (just a little audio glitch barely
perceptible every 5 sec) and it resumes after sleep.
iChat now works really well using the built-in mic.

• Speakers work 100%
• Earplug jack works 100%
• Mic works 100%

Note: I removed the one in S/L/Extensions to have no conflicts.

Question Confused???!??!?!?! - 12-04-2009, 06:43 AM

Huh??

OK.. I just finished reading through the posts and I think I read two different methods of getting sound to work (headphone/mic)..??

Can someone verify that indeed input/output is working without any issues? And after waking from sleep?

If so, can someone put together a complete step-by-step for those of us that are 'noobs' .. like me!

I have been able to follow all other posts/threads to get other issues resolved but I think this thread is confusing me...

Thanks In Advance for the AWESOME HELP!!!

1. Google "show hidden files in osx" and do that
2. Go to /Extra/Mini9Ext/
3. Paste the 2 kexts into there. You will need to inout your password
4. Go to /Extra and run UpdateExtra.
5. Reboot and you're done.

An alternate for number 1, which is easier:
Open your HD, go to the finder under the Go menu, and select "Go To Folder". Type Extra. That will take you straight to the Extra folder.
