Default Sleepwater & /Extra - 11-30-2009, 04:24 AM

I've tried this with the kext installed in /Extra/Mini9Ext and in /System/Library/Extensions. It only works after sleep when installed in in /S/L/E. So for those of you trying to keep your customizations in /Extra, this isn't the method for you (yet anyway).

My AppleHDA is in /Extra right now.

EDIT: Spoke to soon. Works after sleep sometimes, others no.

Now when you say your sound is working and it's 'crystal clear', are you reffering to sound from your headphone jack or from your internal speakers???

If you mean from the headphone output that your sound is working perfectly, what did you do to get it working so well?
Please share the steps you performed to get it to work! As it seems some of the steps mentioned above dont work so well without some minor background noise and I, among others, would love to get our headphone output to work without any issues.

Thanks!!
Allen

Sorry, I misinformed you guys. I also hear the scratchy sounds but when I turn on my noise canceling headphones I don't hardly hear it.
Plus I have horrible hearing because I drive tractors during the summers so I always hear a little buzzing sound.

Sorry to misinform you man!!

At least in my Vostro it works fine if I do the following, put the AppleHDA.kext in the /System/Library/Extensions/
Now, whether or not we have SleepWatcher, the extension is unloaded when the computer goes to sleep.
When the computer wakes up, the rc.wakeup command makes it automatic to upload the extension, however, if one wants to forego of this command line, either via an AppleScript or via command line typing:
sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext/
--> prompt for admin password

will upload the extension and sound is back on!

Thanks for the original post and the follow up.
Great forum this one...

I was wrong! I had something coming back after sleep, but it was not sound in.
I think I fixed it now.
First thing, repair ownership in the extension (AppleHDA.kext).
Change the ownership to root and group to wheel.
Then I put a copy in Extra/A90Ext/ and another in /System/Library/Extensions/ may be not simultaneously.
If you are using SleepWatcher unload the extension in the Extra folder and load the extension in the Extensions folder.
It seems to be working here.
I'll check further if it works I'll put more detailed information here.
This forum is great, this was right in my previous post

Here is what I did and it seems to be working consistently.
First, I've changed ownership of the AppleHDA.kext file. They are owned by root and the group is wheel.
I've installed the extension in the /Extra/A90Ext/ folder (I have a Vostro) and in the /System/Library/Extensions/ folder. I do not think I did it simultaneously. I think I installed first in the /Extra/ and then on the /System/ (after a restart). But I am not sure.
I did get rid of the Azelia extensions (there are 2).
Also, I am using SleepWatcher, however, I did the following, on the rc.sleep file I have the command to unload AppleHDA.kext from the /Extra/ folder and on the rc.wakeup file I have it set so that it uploads the extension in the /System/ folder.
It has been working well, with good sound since then.

I am putting here the extension with the correct ownership and the dsdt file I've got from tommyv.
You can check the ownership by using cmd-i in the finder or using ls -l, for instance, in terminal.
If anyone has any request to automate something let me know.
Id suggest you keep a copy of this version because if you run NBI it deletes this extension.

Default re update - 12-03-2009, 09:44 AM

My quick and easy fix.

i loaded 10.6

I did the 10.6.2 update and lost audio like most do.

all i did to fix it was to do the netbook installer in reg mode.

the rc4 version.

Ive gone from pulling my hair out trying to install osx

to running 10.6.2 and doing a time machine backup as i type.
