Default Disk Imaging - 11-18-2009, 01:07 PM

Thanks very much for the guides etc on the site. I've installed Snow Leopard onto my Dell Mini 9 - very easy with the guides (well apart from having to edit the installation USB to fit it on the 8gbSSD).

I usually use Acronis True Image to image my PCs. Does anyone have any recommendations for imaging software for MAC's?,

On a 8GB SSD, you don't need a fancy disk imager. I'd just use a Linux LiveCD/USB and dd. Add "split", to make the pieces of the image fit on optical discs.

To generate a gzip-compressed image file of the first hard drive, split into 700MB pieces (named drive.img.gz.00, .01, etc) and saved to the current directory, use a command like this:
"sudo dd if=/dev/sda | gzip | split -a 2 -b 700M -d - drive.img.gz."

To restore said image:
"cat drive.img.gz.* | gunzip | sudo dd of=/dev/sda"

You can get CarbonCopy Cloner from here

Or you can use the build-in imager capability of Disk Utilities

As straulino stated, Disk Utility has this functionality built in (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility)

Or you can use CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper
