Default Sound problems. Anybody out there who cares? - 11-13-2009, 03:38 PM

I've about decided that I'm the only one who cares that the DM-9 has been rendered *crap* by SL, and it is obvious that nobody has much interest in finding the [audio] fix. Perhaps tea can come on the scene to figure out this problem.

Can we get an update, or a projection from those who are addressing the issue (if there any doing this)? I recognize and appreciate the efforts by many to do the Voodoo patch, but lets face it, that fix is worse than no audio at all! Is there any way we can reinvigorate our efforts to bring the DM-9 back to the level of functionality that we had with 10.5.8, or is the DM-9 to be forgotten as we move on to bigger an better things, like the 10V?

With all due respects . . .

tea, where are you?

  • Audio isn't *crap* on mini 9 w/ 10.6.x . Mine is fine. Not perfect but very workable. The speakers are fine and a USB headset gets me a working mic and headphones. Totally manageable.
  • This is a community of hobbyists. People contribute based on their personal desires. I don't think a post complaining about progress on your particular wants and needs is "with all due respect."

Okay, everyone chill out before the thread gets locked completely.

No one is being paid to develop drivers or any kind of software here. And no one has paid for said development, there is only a donation line to help developers out when the need arises. So there is no real need for developers to satisfy any of our wishes.

However, the kind people who can develop those drivers haven't just abandoned the Dell Mini 9. meklort has stated repeatedly that the next series of NetbookInstaller, 0.8.4, will heavily emphasize the audio driver for the Mini 9 in Snow Leopard. Just have a little patience, it is in the pipeline.

Akki and Mechdrew are both correct, what the hell do you want for FREE?

If you want that kind of support, buy a real Mac and call Apple for help, sheesh.

I'm thankful any part of it works AT ALL considering this is a hack, just as you should be.

Hey, everybody's chonies are in a bundle here. If you think I'm bagging on meklort or any other of the developers, you're mistaken. In fact, I have so much respect for them that I'm about the only one who honors them by a thank you in my signature (and always have). I respect them, the work they do for all of us, and fully recognize that other (and more important) lives are had by all. And I contribute. So, no more lectures.

My post is really for everyone to experiment and report back; all of this doesn't have to fall on meklort (nor should it), yet it does seem like the 10V has taken a priority. Hey, I have a bunch of 10Vs and the same is true with me. Given that I read all the posts on both machines, the center of gravity has shifted to the 10V, and on that note, there is little to deny.

So, why not take my post for what it was intended? No harm was ever intended.

I was more referencing the two posts that I had to delete for inappropriate and offensive remarks. And I don't care who started it.
