Default OSX 10.5.4 USB ports - 11-12-2009, 01:30 PM

Im running 10.5.4 on my mini 9, none of my USB devices are working, except those integrated into the laptop (Webcam, bluetooth) but when I attach my Ipod, or my Phone, or USB pen, and USB external HDD & CD/DVD drive, they don't appear to register. My Ipod charges, so power is getting to the devices. I'm fairly new to MAC so it's possible I'm just missing something. Any help would be appareciated, I kinda need to sync my devices.

A common problem cause are bios settings. Try setting usb legacy support and usb wake support to disabled. You get into bios settings by pressing "2" on the mini 9 early during startup, when the dell logo is shown.

Also, 10.5.4 might not be fully supported by the hackintosh installations. Reports of 10.5.8 say that all is functional, so if you have no important reasons not to, run the update.

My BIOS settings are currently set to the correct settings. I cant run the updaters because of Disk Space, I have the 8GB Mini 9.

All OS versions below 10.5.6 are not compatible at this time, and no work will be done to make them compatible. The USB ports *should* function correctly if the USB device is plugged in before you turn the netbook on.

You should clear up some space on your SSD, such as by deleting unneeded apps and extra speech voices. (There are plenty of threads here about freeing up space on the SSD.) Once that is done you should upgrade to at least 10.5.6, I would recommend going straight to 10.5.8.

I'm wary for those on 8GB drives, as the 10.6.2 update was saying it needed 3.51GB to run, which while a bit of a pain on a 16GB drive, could be near impossible to find on an 8GB drive.

Same issue with my Mini9 here. My iPod Touch is updated to current version from my Macbook and my Mini9 is running version 10.5.8. When I start my Mini with the iPod connected I only see it in the system profiler, but nothing else.

Pretty frustrating. Any ideas?
