Gchat's is actually on your google settings via the browser so that comes at the problem from a different angle. Based on the suggestions in this thread, I tried iChat and downloaded GoogleTalk, and both recognized the cam. I then tried QuickTime X, and it did not recognize the cam. I then downloaded macam, and, following the instructions, copied macam.component into the /Library/QuickTime/ directory, so it would be available to all applications.
