So I'm confused, as I'm sure others are: are you using a Snow Leopard ISO that you downloaded? That's what it sounds like.

Yes, I downloaded the current iso file today of netbook installer. Too be clear - I have a retail copy of the Snow Leopard disk - the one sold for $29 (currently).
No problem with it (it's your file). I found the problem was in the command to boot from DVD drive. I needed to "double command" at initialization. Found out the solution by trial and error. Here is how I made it finally boot from the disk:
Press 0 at start-up
Go to preferences (don't select the DVD boot option on initial screen!)
Select boot from DVD from within preferences and move it up the list with F6.
F10 to initiate boot, but press zero again at the short prompt like I am requesting a boot location again (which I am)
Instead of going into preferences, just select the DVD boot option on the main (first) screen. Hit enter. Now it sees the disk, spools up, and does it's thing.
I loaded two Mini 9's tonight this way, and they work perfect using your tutorial.
Just loaded iLife 2009 from a disk ("Applications Install DVD") that came with a new iMac using this tutorial, too, if someone needs it: Installing iLife ‘08 on | Two Slashes
