Default How to i change my admim password without cd - 10-07-2009, 06:19 PM

when i installed mac os i do not remember putting a password, maybe i did but i don't remember and now i cant install nothing cuz it keeps asking for the admin password and i don't know it. I know there's a easy way with CD put i´m without a external dvd roam or 8 gb usb drive. So my last option in is pressing command+s key at boot but whats the equivalent to comandkey on the dell mini? And whats the mac OS chime?

You've tried entering your own password? Usually you give their own account admin rights as part of the install and so you password is the one being requested.

Figure out the account short name. Same as the home folder name.
Boot into single user mode (press Command-S at power on -- At startup Chime)
Launch core system services by typing
sh /etc/rc
Change the password for the account's short name, with (No Angle brackets)
passwd <username>
Enter the new password, press return, type it again, press return, it should say something like "password changed"; it won't echo what you're typing, but it will be working, just trust it.
Restart the computer by typing
You should be able to login with the new password.
