righto... meklort is probably a genius... took a punt on NBM 8.3 RC3 - upgrade not clean install - and, so far, all is sweet. Better than 10.5.8 and all apps working. Sleep works, sound works after sleep. Sig below shows what I'm running. Today, I'm v. happy. Still testing.... only thing not working is About this Mac which has reverted to processor unknown (not important). So far, so good.

Just did a new install (NBI 0.83 RC3) of Snow Leopard + 10.6.1 update on a Vostro A90 w/ 16G STEC. Seems to run perfect and much much faster than XP.
For the first time I got to see the startup movie. Must be due to NBI.
Sleep worked once legacy usb was disabled in bios. Sound is good. Network is good. Still testing other features but very very happy so far.

I'm waiting for audio to be fully functional via Netbook Maker/Installer before I jump.
I've got a fully functional 10.5.8 install at the moment - and need headphones to work reliably (and sleep) before I jump to 10.6.
Hopefully it won't be too long a wait...
