Default Wipe the Harddrive - 08-31-2009, 05:25 AM

I have a dell vostro A90 and been having lots of problems lately. I had succesfully installed Mac OSX via the DellEFI method. Through my ingenious handiwork I managed to mess it up and now it will no longer boot into mac osx. I've tried reinstalling mac osx through the DellEFI method but that doesn't seem to work either. I was wondering if there was any way to wipe the harddrive clean and start from scratch. If anyone could help me out with this it would really help me out! Thanks!

All you really need to do is wipe the first couple of dozen sectors, which contain the boot record and partition table. I find the easiest way to do that is to run DBAN from floppy or CD and fire off a "quick" wipe with the entire drive selected. This will start writing binary zeroes to the entire disk, and you can simply interrupt it after a couple of minutes, after which your installation media should see the drive as completely virgin.

Thinking of trying Dropbox? Use this referal link and we'll both get an extra 250MB of storage.

+1 for DBAN!! Awesome utility

Another alternative is to boot to OSX install DVD and use disk utility

I'm not familiar enough with the hackintosh procedure to know if it could be a problem, but you may need to erase the last couple sectors of the disk, too. Since that's where the backup GPT (GUID Partition Table) resides.

Yes. You'll need the older 1.0.7 executable which will create a bootable diskette or flash drive.
