so i bought a dell mini 9 from someone who had already loaded 10.5.6 on it, i got it today and went to run software update and i forgot to uncheck the 10.5.8 update, after about an hour and a half of the updates running, the computer automatically restarted. the dell logo pops up, the apple logo pops up, then instead of loading the desktop, i am stuck on a grey screen with some black lines stuck in it. Did i screw it up? am I going to have to re-hack it?

You're not stuck, read the threads on the 10.5.7 upgrade. That's most likely why you've got the grey screen. Even though you went from 10.5.6 to 10.5.8 the changes made with 10.5.7 are the reason for your problem. I can't remember the exact details, it was something like boot into safe mode and re-install the mini extensions and regenerate the dstl file. You'll want to find the exact steps in the thread instead of using my half remembered method.

yes, you can try that, but first check in the bios whether it's enabled. try the latest notebookinstaller.
