All of these findings have already been posted in the OS X Forum, Melkort and others are looking at the kext that reports the battery state. Percentage works, time left does not.
I understand that DellEFI has had this error since 10.5.6, I am simply repeating this for people upgrading to 10.5.8 that have not read of this in the forums already (It's sometimes very hard to find these little bits).
Sidenote: thanks to your reply people will better understand the reasoning behind such a feature...
As for the battery state, in 10.5.7 both the percentage and time remaining were functional on the installation I had... the degradation of the time remaining did not occur until AFTER the 10.5.8 update.
The post was meant to be informative for those with less experience with installing osx on the mini... to point them in the right direction as it was difficult for me to find answers to my questions about updating the mini. I felt that this post would be helpful since 10.5.8 had come out mere hours before my post... all of the guides call for 10.5.7 as the update... and 10.5.8 is a bit pickier when it comes to installing it on the mini.
In short: my hope for posting was to help some poor soul lost among these forums... stuck with an updated but not booting mini... I really hope that my post will help in some small way... Please let me know if it does
