Default SDHC use - 10-01-2008, 07:01 PM

Just wondering how many people are using a class 6 16GB SDHC card as a more perminant solution to a secondary storage drive for stuff that doesn't need as high of a read/write speed as the SSD.

Funny you mention that!
I'm currently using a Class 4 8gb card in an SD adapter, but ordered a 16gb Class 6 SDHC card a few days ago.
It should arrive by the end of the week if I'm lucky.

I'm using mine mostly for media at the moment, although it seems silly as my whole install uses less than a quater of the 16gb SSD. and it's otherwise wide open.

i've got a 16gb class 6 in there semi-permanently. it's fine for storing files and media, but terrible for running programs from. i always copy any programs, installation files, etc. onto the SSD before running them and just use the SDHC strictly for storage. it gets about 20 MB/s read/write, not too bad.

I was planning on ordering one just for documents and media. The 16GB SSD is plenty for all the programs I run so I don't see myself needing to install anything on a secondary drive anyways. Its a shame I can't find a 32GB class 6

J&R has some in stock (made by Panasonic) but they will set you back $300 USD.
Here's the LINK if you're interested: http://www.jr.com/panasonic/pe/PAN_RPSDV32GU1K/

Supposedly Toshiba, SanDisk, PNY and Kingston all have 32GB class 6 cards out now, too. If you can wait until Black Friday or maybe after Christmas, you'll likely find some cheaper. Supposedly 64GB cards are coming out by the end of the year which will surely add pressure for a price drop on the 32GB cards.

Does the SD card fit completely inside the slot, or does it stick out slightly?

That was a concern of mine too but fear not, it fits completely flush!

I was thinking of putting my iTunes library on there. Any concerns about speed if I wanted to watch video from it?

It should be fine for music, pics, standard definition video, etc.
