Default Will Dell EVER release a larger battery? - 06-07-2009, 02:39 AM

I know many of had success with 3rd party batteries and it may be my only eventual option, but I was curious as to if any of you think Dell will EVER develop a larger 6-cell or 8-cell battery for the Mini 9 now that they have discontinued it?

Would be a bummer....

Well the mini 9 is discountinued, but the Vostro isn't as far as I know. They may release it for that if they feel a buisness need could be met.

The Vostro is also discontinued, in that it isn't being manufactured any more. They're running through existing stock. If the A90 was still being made, there would be no point in discontinuing the Mini 9 since they're the same.

Ohh that sucks, sometimes Dell will discontinue a Inspiron/Latitude version of a laptop and keep it going for Vostro longer. I have seen the period go for upto a year that they continue to sell and I assume produce machines.

Also once a computer hits buisness class they continue to support it for quite some time. The D630, which is what we buy was recently replaced by the E series in January 09. We can still buy them, and they continue to release BIOS updates for us.

Since the Mini was selling faster then they could manufactor them, they may not have too many in stock. Which means the Vostro version won't last long enough for them to release another BIOS update, and/or better peripherals like a bigger battery.

I just received my Runcore 32gb SSD card yesterday. The box included an ad sheet advertizing a MydigitalSSD 5300AH Extended Life battery for the Dell Mini 9 for a reasonable price ($64.99).

There are a bunch of extended batteries listed on ebay. Most of them are around the $58-59 range. Didn't check shipping. Also, according to Pacificbattery.com they will have options for Mini 9 batteries in 2 weeks. Their batteries have always been good and reliable and a heck of a lot cheaper than what Dell charges for them.

I wonder how compatible this one is. Accurate battery metering? Charging issues?

I know there are other options but I like OEM batts for a lot of the reasons mentioned on this forum. So far any non-dell battery found has not working totally properly either with charging issues or with lights flashing or who knows what

If someone makes one that works perfectly, I would be more than happy to look
