Default Received mini with ....a runcore? - 06-05-2009, 03:35 AM

Just received a replacement mini 9 from Dell today after an especially poor bout with customer (dis)service. I was planning on swapping the SSD drives before sending the defective unit back, as it's a prototype unit for a special project I'd really rather not have to redo. Long story short, it seems that Dell may have actually listened to my sourcing suggestion back months ago when this started: my 64Gb SSD is actually a special-for-dell runcore!

Either way, once I clone the drive I plan to do some benchmarks to see if it's really the same quality as the RunCore retail units, but I did notice that Dell had them remove the USB connector, so cloning will be a bit more of a hassle than I hoped when I first saw it.

Has anyone else received a 64Gb RunCore drive in their Mini 9 (or 10v)? The Part number is different from my old unit (Stec 64Gb is DP/N 0F462N and RunCore 64Gb is DP/N 0T3MY3), but I didn't see it on dell's website - maybe orderable through parts over the phone?

I wonder if STEC couldn't source enough 64GB drives for Dell, and now Dell is turning to RunCore for replacements under warranty. That would explain why they stopped offering 64GB drives.

This would lend reason to why MDD has been backordered for so long...

Dell was probably getting first pickings at the stock.

Purely speculation...
