Default SD card max? - 10-01-2008, 02:47 PM

Just ordered my Mini 9 today. What is the maximum size SD card you can put it this? I'm looking at a 'cheap' 8GB card.

Mini 9 - Black - XP, 8GB, 2GB RAM, 0.3 Cam, 16GB SDHC, V220 Mouse...

it supports SDHC, so 32 gigs is the max currently
Quote:
It uses the same form factor as SD, but the SD 2.0 standard in SDHC uses a different memory addressing method (sector addressing vs byte addressing), thus theoretically reaching a maximum capacity of up to 2 TB (2048 GB). However the SD Card association have artificially defined the maximum limit of SDHC capacity to 32 GB.

So when my new Mini9 arrives - what is the best media to pick up? With a SD card reader installed, should I just use an SD card to transfer/install stuff?

You'll just want to use the SD card for storage, not running things.

So what's the best thing to pick up? A USB flash drive?

USB/SD cards are about the same speed (both usually use a single flash chip). the SSD is much faster (uses multiple flash chips simultaneously for more speed). run things from the SSD, store media and files on the SD/USB.

OK, last question. What would be better - a class 4 or 6 SD card or a USB flash drive for data storage/file transfering? I'd prefer an SD card to free up a USB port, but don't want it if it's a lot slower...

The higher the class the faster the card will read and write, and faster is always good.

An SD card will fit flush inside your Mini 9 and not present the hazard of being broken like a flash drive will.
I'm using a Logitech VX Nano wireless mouse, and the 1/4 inch it's Nano Receiver sticks out from the side is about the maximum I would be comfortable leaving in there all the time. (As it is I'd like to mount it internally, but that's another topic.)

I say go for the best of both worlds and get an SDHC card you can use now.
Augment that with a keychain-style USB flash drive you can use for less critical things when you are able.

64gb is available, but its uber-expensive!

Amazon do up to 32gb SHDC cards for about £70 that about as good as it gets, but its not bad to triple your memory...
